The Enticement Industry
Boston drummers and bass players: audition for The Enticement Industry, a band that I am forming
I seek members for a new improv trio (guitar, bass, drums) that plays rock with a punk/indi attitude using compositions as a platform for adventurous creative improvisation and musical conversation.
I am Tom Worster. I played guitar on and off for 40 years. I’m not excited by the practice of studio recording. I want to play in a band at the intersection of avant-garde (old-school) improvisation and rock music.
What can I do?
Three examples from the last two years plus one older:
Improvise on Brouwer’s Omaggio a Stravinsky comping self with a guitar synth…
Improvise on a bass line with EZdrummer 2’s included “Messy rock”…
Compose a tune after Dislocated by The League of Gentlemen (vid below)…
Provide a weird synth part for Jon’s 808 composition (~2008)…
What shall we do at audition?
Let’s play Yet Another Fresh Start (example 3 above).
This pseudo-surf tune which needs a bass line (after Ocean Beach by The Mermen)
I have some other material. If you want to prepare in advance, talk to me and I’ll choose something.
(I can’t sight read conventional staff and don’t expect you to, although that could help.)
What do I pay?
Expenses. For now this is not a commercial project, it’s for fun, development and practice. The goal is to discover what we can do. If it turns into a good band then I expect we will want an audience and then we’d have to figure that out.

Bio
As teenager I was in a jazz-rock band influenced by Ian Carr’s Nucleus, from which a recording of Visions of Ra survives. In late 90s and early 00s I was recording and performing solo as fsb in the then-floursihing Boston noise/experimental/improv scene (CD The Form of Space on Discogs and Soundcloud). Later in 00s I formed the noise/improv band Blood Money with vocalist Ken Ueno and drum machinist Jon Whitney. We cut two CDs: Axis of Blood (Bandcamp) and Blood Brotherhood (Bandcamp). For nearly 10 years I hosted a radio show of modern composition, noise, electronics, improv etc. called New Adventures, Nouvelles Aventures, or Nude Avengers. I now co-host and produce the Gas Giants Podcast, which deals with music among other things.
